The Seyssel vineyard
On both banks of the Rhône, between 200 and 400 meters above sea level, straddling the departments of Ain and Haute-Savoie, the hillsides of the Seyssel vineyards undulate. The first written records mention vines in the region date back to the 10th century, but it was the monks of Arvières who, from the 14th century onward, developed this vineyard, which reached its peak in the 19th century. Two unique grape varieties are specific to this terroir: Altesse "Roussette" and Molette, from which the "Vins de Seyssel" are made. Seyssel wines pair perfectly with other local products from the Savoie region: Reblochon, Beaufort, Tomme, Comté Pyrimont, and more.
The Frangy vineyard
The Frangy vineyards are situated on either side of the Usses Valley, at the foot of the Vuache mountain. This hilly terroir enjoys a mild and sunny climate. It is crossed by the Fornant stream and the Usses River. The existence of this vineyard, mentioned in the charter of Cluny Abbey, dates back to the 11th century. Much later, in 1614, Saint Francis de Sales, to whom the canons are said to have offered a cask of Roussette de Desingy, praised the quality of this wine. The export of wines, particularly to Switzerland, was for a long time one of the main economic activities of the Usses Valley, benefiting from a quality attested to by numerous writings, one of the best known being a passage from Jean-Jacques Rousseau's "Confessions."
